How I replaced my home NAS to "the ultimate NAS" for just $500 total including drives

My QNAP NAS experienced multiple HDD disconnected errors. Time for an upgrade! For under $500, I have a system with 4 hot-swap 3.5" bays, 64GB, 24 cores, dual power supplies and dual 12TB drives.

I use Windows 10 which is a Microsoft program and a 64 bit version, because I don't like Windows 11. I transfer all downloaded files to 2TB hard drives, I could use bigger hard drives, but because previously, I was using Windows 7 which had a maximum storage capacity of 2TB, I have multiples of 2TB hard drives, which I buy second hand from eBay for peanuts and which last for ever - I post zero to the cloud, for 2 reasons, firstly I like to have all of my data in my home with me and 2) because I don't want to have to pay Cloud storage fees as my online collection increases, as it has and my HDD's don't write errors - SATA drives take about 2 minutes tops to switch, but it helps to disconnect them from your computer before pulling them out - do that by going to the taskbar on the bottom right of your computer screen, click on the upwards pointing arrow and click on the blank icon "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" and do that first, but if Steve just pulls his hard drives out, that's why they error and occasionally crash.
I don't use DVD's BluRay's or CD's, why bother when I can use portable 500GB thin drives and 2TB hard drives to do that instead with a USB connection to any computer I am using at the time?
I have 65 inch top quality Monitors, sorry, I've forgotten the terminology, the type you can connect to a computer via the HTML lead and I play all of my movies and TV Programs in my inhome Theater on Windows 10 x64 Laptops, as above. So can you too.
The thing to know about Movies and TV Programs is that they are zoned to regions and the DVD Players and TV's that they will play on - this is to avoid Piracy across zoning areas - BUT - computers don't know that and they will play any zoned Movie or TV Program on your Big Screen TV monitor, irrespective of the zoning controls on the Movie or TV Program, which is why, playing through a Laptop via an HTML lead to your TV Monitor is the only way to go.
If you get a portable hard drive for 2TB hard drives and strip it back to the circuit board and connections to power, and connect your PC, you can plug in and remove hard drives quickly and easily and store your digital software according to topic and any other criteria you set.
I can buy 500Gb Laptop Thin HDD's for about US$6 second hand, they come from outdated computers which have been stripped down for scrap and I save heaps of software and other programs to the 500GB thin hard drives, before transferring the collected stuff to 2TB storage hard drives, when they get quite full, which can take at least 6 months, to fill up.
Like Steve, I used to have one 2TB hard drive and another 2TB hard drive as a backup, but I have discovered a software program which recovers all of the downloaded and saved files on a hard drive, if it crashes and after I have formatted it, if need be - you might think a deleted hard drive has nothing on it, wrong - try it and see.
I have upwards of 30 x 2TB hard drives and on those drives I have huge collections of movies and TV programs consistent with what I like to watch and I have not watched any free to air TV programs for over 20 years, because I don't like the free adverts, or political pressure points on subjects I don't agree with, or wish to comply with.
https://wjungle.net/index.php is a great place to go to get everything software related, if you don't want to pay for it and rlsbb.cc is a great place to go to download free movies and TV programs, games, music, eBooks and so on - I use Nitroflare (yearly subscription which cost wise, is quickly recovered) as my download warehouse which is a firewall between the uploader and me, the downloader, so neither of us knows who the other is and the download speed is governed by your internet connection download speed and the downloader, set and forget program you use - I use JDownloader, which is free.
I don't use any anti virus program because I use Deep Freeze which locks the Registry and stops any virus or trojan from accessing my Operating System and support software, from wjungle, although there is another program which works the same way CryptDrive which you can find on wjungle, after you have registered and can get the download and installation instructions.
Steve Kirsch owns substack and consequently he needs the huge storage capability he has with the ultimate NAS and ever the "entrepeneur" he is still trying to make a quick buck out of you, who are willing to pay for it, Steve being a Billionaire and one of the Elite, I thought he could have afforded a freebie, like I do and I'm not rich by any degree - still I like to offset Steve whenever I can with a freebie for you home users like me, who don't need the capacity or power of Steve's setup, I mean, what for?
AND my substack is free!!
Much Laughter!!
